The Faculty of Engineering at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad (FUM) was established on February 25, 1975. It began its activities in October 1975 with the admission of 30 students in the Electrical Engineering program and 30 students in the Mechanical Engineering program.

In 1988, the Computer Engineering group was established in the Faculty of Sciences and joined the Faculty of Engineering one year later. The Chemical Engineering group was established in 1991 and the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering group was established two years later. The Industrial Engineering group was added to the faculty's educational groups in 2006. In July 2021, the Textile Engineering program was added to the faculty's current programs.

Currently, after nearly half a century of activity, the Faculty of Engineering has about 48,000 square meters of educational, administrative, service, workshop, and meeting hall space. With about 190 faculty members (in the academic ranks of professor, associate professor, and assistant professor) and staff, the faculty educates about 6,000 students (in undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs) in seven departments and about 70 specializations.
