A Supply Chain Network Design Model for Wheat and Flour: Integrating Domestic Consumption, Imports, Storage, Production, and Distribution; Case Study Iran

چکیده :

Abstract- Wheat and flour products are considered strategic commodities, playing a vital role in ensuring food security and contributing to the economy of countries. Wheat, as one of the main grains, is an essential nutritional source for humans. The processing of wheat into flour forms the basis for the producing of various breads, pastries, and food products that constitute a significant part of the diet. Development and innovation in this industry directly impact the sustainability and quality of community nutrition. The location of silos and processing centers in the wheat and flour import and production industry is crucial for reducing transportation costs, maintaining product quality, and increasing economic efficiency. This enables quicker access to raw materials and prevents the spoilage of wheat. In this context, this study presents an optimization model for designing the supply chain network of wheat and flour, aiming to determine the optimal locations for establishing silos for wheat storage and to define the optimal amount of wheat imports and the consumption of all domestically produced wheat. The model specifies the amount of wheat to be stored in each; province, the transportation of domestic wheat between provinces, the amount of flour produced in each; province, and its movement between provinces. Numerical results of the model execution and sensitivity analysis experiments, along with management insights, are provided.
